I first used WordPress in 2012 when I converted my hand-coded personal website into a WordPress site. After that I didn’t work with WordPress until early 2020 when I helped my friend optimize his Tigerwhey e-commerce website. We did quite well optimizing his site to be lightweight (< 400KB) and fast to load (Onload < 1 sec). Since then I optimized my personal website and created a couple new ones such as my wife’s Minh Dan website – all optimized of course.

These experiences made it obvious to me a WordPress site takes some effort to run efficiently. It does not require a lot of work nor require a lot of technical expertise, but you do need to be aware of various items that affect performance. It is these things I want to document here.
